BAGLUNG, Oct 31: Soon, people of Dhawalagiri zone will not need to go to Pokhara to pay taxes as a new tax office is coming up at Baglung for them. Inland Revenue Department (IRD) is establishing a tax office in Baglung for Dhawalagiri zone and another in Tanahu district for Gandaki zone.

Tax office in Baglung will collect taxes from people living in Baglung, Parbat, Myagdi and Mustang districts and the office in Tanahu will collect taxes from Lamjung, Gorkha, Manang and Tanahu districts. [break]

IRD has already taken a building on rent and will start operations latest by February next year.

"After considering the problems of traders and people, Krishna Bahadur Basnet, chief of Inland Revenue Office, Pokhara, said about 3,000 traders of Parbat, Baglung, Myagdi and Mustang will not have to travel hundreds of kilometers to pay taxes. IRD had annexed the tax office of Baglung with Pokhara office citing manpower crunch.

Inland Revenue Office, Pokhara, conducts a mobile camp to different districts once a year for traders who had PAN numbers but the ones who deals through VAT still have to come to Pokhara to pay taxes.

Many traders in the area have not registered themselves for either PAN or VAT because of the difficulty to pay taxes.

"As there is no tax office in the area, even tobacco and alcohol dealers are not registering themselves with relevant departments. It will now be easier to bring untaxed group under the tax net," said Basnet.
