Pratap Babu Tiwari, chief of Civil Aviation Office, Pokhara said the team led by Li Dan, assistant general manager of the bank, will study whether or not its investment in the project will be profitable. The team held discussion with local stakeholders on Wednesday.[break]
Tiwari said the team will prepare its report after collecting information on geographical features, traffic flow and management and investment environment. The bank will decide whether or not to invest in the project after studying the report.
“Chinese officials have told us that the bank has put the project in its priority. We are hopeful of attracting Chinese investment in the project,” added Tiwari.
Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) has already forwarded preliminary report of the project to the Chinese government. Tiwari said Chinese officials have told him that the study will be completed in a few months.
The government had acquired 3,106 ropanis of land for the project about 35 years ago. The estimated investment cost of the project is Rs 13 billion. Upon completion, the airport will have the capacity of handling up to Boeing 757 sized aircraft.
