SPORTS BRIEFS: Register for nat'l games, NSC tells players

KATHMANDU, Sept 13: The National Sports Council has issued a notice to all the players to register for the upcoming Sixth National Games from their permanent address within one month.



A meeting headed by NSC Member Secretary Yubaraj Lama with the officials of different sports bodies of the country on Tuesday also decided to select the district teams ahead of the regional selection for the games scheduled to be held in the Far-west Region later this year. [break]



The selected teams from the districts will compete in the regional level. The winners of the regional selection and talented players in team events will be eligible to play in the national games. For the individual events, the top two position holders in the district selection will compete in the regional selection and the same will be for the national games.



Hero Honda Hunk sponsors Dharma Shree

KATHMANDU: Syakar Company´s automobile brand Hero Honda Hunk announced main sponsorship for the 12th Dharma Shree Open Bodybuilding Championship.

Managing Director of Syakar Company, Abir Jyoti, announced the sponsorship deal on Tuesday amidst a press meet in the capital. Syakar Company will provide Rs 400,000 to the organizer, Nepal Byayam Mandir, for the sponsorship deal.



The tournament will be held in the capital on Sunday and Monday. Earlier, the tournament was scheduled to be held earlier.



“We could not arrange venue to conduct the tournament on the dates announced earlier,” said Narayan Pradhan, President of Nepal Byayam Mandir.



Prejudging round of the tournament will be held at Nepal Police Academy, Maharajgunj on Sunday. Altogether six weight categories are included in the championship. The winners of all categories will vie for the Dharma Shree title on Monday.



The title winner will receive Rs 150,000 while bodybuilders securing second to sixth positions will get Rs75,000, Rs50,000, Rs 40,000, Rs 30,000 and Rs 25,000 respectively.



The second and third position holders in the weight categories will bag Rs10,000 and Rs5,000 respectively.



According to the organizers, altogether 150 bodybuilders are expected to take part in the championship, which has expected expense of Rs1,500,000. Manakamana Darshan Pvt Ltd and Fitness Choice are the co-sponsors of the event.



The eleventh edition of the Dharma Shree was held four years ago and Sanu Gurung has won the title.



“We hope the championship will get continuity,” said President Pradhan.



Rana elected Sotokan president


KATHMANDU: The first general assembly of Sotokan Karate-do Association Nepal on Tuesday elected an 18-member executive committee under the presidency of Rakesh Shumsher Rana. Yuddha Bahadur Karki, Nandan Singh Badal and Gyan Bahadur Khatri are the vice-presidents in the committee, while Jung Bahadur Lama is the general secretary. Abiraj Kumar Khadka and Jayanti Thapa have been elected secretary and treasurer respectively.



New Generation in super league


KATHMANDU: New Generation Club, Sindhupalchowk secured its berth in the super league round of the Red Bull B Division Regional League from the group C of the tournament. According to All Nepal Football Association (ANFA), Trinity Club, Tanahu thrashed Dream Boys Club 3-0 on Tuesday in the group round match played at Lamosanghu, Sindhupalchowk. Trinity´s win helped New Generation to qualify for the super league round. New Generation has played a draw against Dream Boys on Sunday and defeated Trinity 2-1 on Monday.



Kasturi Youth Club, Siraha and SM Sports Club, Dhanusha had already booked the super league berth from group A and group B of the tournament. The fourth team for the super league round will be decided after the group D matches to be played in Kanchanpur from Thursday. The top two teams in the super league will qualify for the proposed B Division National League.
