35 Nepali youths rescued from Uttarakhand

According to a statement issued by the Nepali Embassy in New Delhi, the rescue operation was carried out on Ashar 20, following directives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The youths were reportedly subjected to physical abuse, torture, and extortion under multiple pretexts.

KATHMANDU, June 22—Thirty-five young Nepalis who had been lured from various districts with promises of lucrative jobs and later held captive in Kashipur, Uttarakhand, have been rescued.

According to a statement issued by the Nepali Embassy in New Delhi, the rescue operation was carried out on Ashar 20, following directives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The youths were reportedly subjected to physical abuse, torture, and extortion under multiple pretexts.


The operation was conducted with the support of Uttarakhand Police and the local social organization ‘Kin India’. Several individuals believed to be involved in the incident have been arrested by Indian authorities, and investigations are ongoing.


The embassy also confirmed that efforts are underway to locate and rescue additional Nepali youths believed to be held in other parts of Uttarakhand.


The rescued individuals will be repatriated to Nepal upon the completion of the necessary legal procedures.
