KATHMANDU, Sept 2: Chairman of Madhesi People´s Rights Forum (Republican) threatened to stay out of the government during a meeting of the United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) Thursday evening if he is not given the post of the deputy prime minister as per the understanding reached on Sunday prior to the election of the new prime minister.

Gupta issued the threat during the meeting of the chairmen of the five parties in the Madhesi alliance Thursday evening, according to a Madhesi leader present at the meeting. [break]

The meeting was called to settle the row over sharing the 11 ministries allocated to the UDMF.

The alliance could not decide on giving the post of deputy prime minister to Gupta after TMDP leader Hridayesh Tripathi also staked claim to the post of deputy prime minister and that of the Ministry of Physical Planning and Works.

Gupta, in his Facebook post, said, “Morcha (the alliance) is indecisive on the issue of sharing the ministries as of tonight. Three alliance members, TMDP, TMDP-N and SP has also staked claims to the portfolio of Ministry of Physical Planning...”

In the meantime, MPRF-Nepal has also demanded three ministries, including a deputy prime minister.
