According to the agreement, the government will take the responsibility of security of STJMM´s leaders during the peace talks and will treat them as politicians.
Similarly, STJMM will provide a namelist of its detained leaders and the government will begin process to release them, according to the agreement. STJMM has expressed its commitment to hand over its weapons.
"We will help the government take action against our cadres if [they are] found involved in illegal activities, but we will not be responsible if others carry out such activities in the name of STJMM," Giri said while addressing a joint press meet after the talks.
He said they will give up armed activities if the government presents itself responsibly. Giri claimed that his group resumed armed activities as the previous government did not implement past agreements.
On the occasion, Minister for Peace Pampha Bhushal said the government is ready to implement the agreement reached between the two sides. "The government will begin process to release STJMM´s detained leaders only after it hands over the weapons," said Bhushal.
She said both sides have agreed for further talks.
Bhushal had led the government talks team that included the agriculture and co-operatives minister, while the STJMM team was led by Giri.
