According to Chand´s elder brother Rabindra Chand, Rohit has initiated visa process to play a friendly match from Kettering Town FC, a non-league team. Nepali national team coach Graham Roberts had initiated Rohit´s visa process.[break]
"Roberts´ agent Jonathan Hopes had arranged for Rohit to play from Kettering Town and we have started visa process from Wednesday. He will leave for England as soon as he gets visa," said Rabindra, adding, "Hopes has assured that Rohit will be given chance to play in four matches."
NK Memorial football from Saturday
KATHMANDU: The third edition of NK Memorial Inter-college Football Tournament is beginning on Saturday in Kathmandu. The event being organized by Sports Training and Recreation (STAR) Club of Budhanilkantha School will be participated by 12 teams including the defending champion, Nobel Academy. The participating teams are divided into four groups and the tournament will be played in league-cum-knockout format. The winner and runner-up will bag a purse of Rs 12,000 and Rs 9,000 respectively while the fair play team will be awarded Rs 5,000.
TT players selected for nat’l league
KATHMANDU: The All Nepal Table Tennis Association on Thursday selected the men´s and women´s bottom four seeds to complete the list of 20 players in each category for the National League Table Tennis Ranking Tournament.
The top 16 players of the 33rd National Table Tennis Tournament held last year had already secured automatic berths for the National League that is beginning on Monday. [break]
The bottom four seeds selected in the men’s category are Binesh Khania, seeded 17, Piyush Awal (18), Ganesh Tamang (19) and Bivek Gautam (20). Likewise, the players selected in the women’s category are 17th seeded Sunita Lama, Goma Gautam (18), Erika Maharjan (19) and Manita Chitrakar (20). The league will conclude on August 19.
Gurung elected handball president
KATHMANDU: The second general assembly of Nepal Handball Association unanimously elected Tej Bahadur Gurung as its president late on Wednesday after another contender Damodar Bhattarai withdrew his candidacy. A 17-member working committee was also formed through consensus under the leadership of Gurung. Ramkrishna KC has been elected the senior vice-president while Shambhu Paudel, Jeevan Kumar Basnet and Bhim Bahadur KC are the vice-presidents of the newly-elected committee. Bishwa Bam Malla is the general secretary while Meethraj Adhikari is the treasurer. The association´s last general assembly was held about 17 years ago.
Open squash c´ship from Monday
KATHMANDU: Nepal Squash and Handball Association is organizing the NSRA Open Squash Championship from Monday. The championship will be participated by 22 men, six women and 17 players above 40 years competing in men’s, women’s and veterans’ categories respectively. The six-day event sponsored by Surya Nepal and CG Electronics will be held at the Squash Academy, Satdobato, according to the organizer Amar Singh. Meanwhile, five junior squash players will be participating in the Indian Junior Open Squash Championship to be held in Chennai, India from September 6-10. The players selected are Amrit Thapa, Prabin Gurung, Arhant Singh, Ashes Singh in boys’ U-15 and Krishna Thapa in girls’ U-17 category. This is the first time a junior team of Nepal is participating in an international squash competition.
