In his statement to the police Sanjaya Mandal, 24, said that Priyanka Mandal, daughter of Biniya, died while he tried to rape her by strangling her. Area Police Office, Rangeli said Sanjaya, who had recently returned from Punjab, India, had tried to lure the girl by offering her five rupees when she went to his house to watch television and resorted to rape when she declined.[break]
Sanjaya hid the body under a wooden plank near a nearby pond Tuesday night. He buried it the next morning with the help of his father Shiva Narayan after pretending that he found the body when he went for fishing in the morning. The father and son then dumped the body in the field. Spokesperson of Morang Police Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Deepak Thapa said Sanjaya would be tried on a murder charge since he has already confessed and his father for being an accomplice.
The second grader at Madhubani Primary School, who had gone missing since she went out of her house to play Tuesday evening, was found in a paddy field by the side of Biratnagar-Dayania road section Sunday morning. Police had arrested neighbor Sanjay, his father Shiva Narayan and brother Sani Kumar after the girl´s slippers were recovered from Shiva Narayan´s home following a complaint against the trio by the victim´s father Biniya.
