Several UML leaders and workers of Morang and Jhapa districts had urged the party establishment to take action against Basnet for bringing a bad name to the party by attacking journalist Khilanath Dhakal and engaging in various other illegal activities.

Those attacked and threatened by the YF cadres met with senior UML leaders in Kathmandu. During their separate meetings with party leaders Ashok Rai and Bharat Mohan Adhikari, the district leaders, Ghanashyam Khatiwada, Morang secretary Mahesh Regmi and district committee member Parul Chhetri, were assured that the party would act against the thugs.

While Regmi was attacked, Khatiwada and Chhetri received death threats after Morang District Court sent Rohit Koirala and Manoj Rai to judicial detention and issued arrest warrant against Basnet.

Meanwhile, an informal discussion about the matter between the party´s central committee members and lawmakers took place at the party´s parliamentary party office on Friday afternoon.

A lawmaker who participated in the discussion said the issue would be raised on Saturday with Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal, General Secretary Ishwar Pokharel, Senior Leader Madhav Kumar Nepal and the party´s disciplinary department chief Amrit Kumar Bohara.
