LONDON, July 8: British police on Friday re-arrested former News of the World royal editor Clive Goodman, who was jailed in 2007 for phone hacking at the tabloid, over corruption allegations, Scotland Yard said.
The arrest was announced shortly after police confirmed they had also arrested Andy Coulson, the newspaper´s former editor and the ex-communications director of Prime Minister David Cameron.[break]
Goodman, 53, was apprehended at his house in Surrey, south of London.
London´s Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) released a statement confirming the arrest: "The MPS has this morning arrested another member of the public in connection with allegations of corruption.
"Officers from the MPS´ Operation Weeting together with officers from Op (Operation) Elveden arrested a man on suspicion of corruption allegations in contravention of Section 1 of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1906."
The statement added that the man was currently in custody at a south London police station and that a search was "ongoing" at the address at which he had been detained.
Operation Elveden is the investigation into allegations of inappropriate payments to police and is being supervised by the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
Goodman was first arrested in August 2006 along with private investigator Glenn Mulcaire over allegations they hacked into the mobile phones of members of the royal household, including those of princes William and Harry.
Five months later the reporter was jailed for four months and Mulcaire for for six months after they admitted intercepting voicemails.
