Multi language drama festival in Hetauda

KATHMANDU, July 3: Theatre companies from different parts of the country have come together for a six day theatre festival.



The multi language drama festival has been organized by Nepal Academy of Music and Drama, Chauni, Kathmandu. “Bahubhasik Natak Mahotsab 2068” is the name of the festival to be held at Taranga Natak Ghar in Hetauda. [break]



Ambar Gurung, the Chancellor of Nepal Academy of Music and Drama inaugurated the festival in a ceremony on July 1.



The local coordinator of the event is Taranga Saanskritik Parisad, Hetauda which also performed a play, Anikaal ko Yaatra as a part of the opening function. The play is directed by Ujjwal Sharma Bhandari, Chair Person of the theatre.



Somnath Khanal, festival facilitator of Nepal Academy of Music and Drama informed that throughout the festival, nine plays in total will be staged and different theatre companies from different parts of the country are participating in it. “Everyday we have performances of plays in different languages,” he added.







The participating theatres are Mandala theatre and Actor’s studio from Kathmandu, Mithila Natya Kala Parisad from Janakpur, Bagina Samuha from Surkhet, Arihanp theatre from Birgunj, Awadhi Samaj Uthan Kendra from Nepaljung, Nepal Bhasa Academy from Kirtipur among others.



On July 2, the play showcased was Maila dot com by Mandala theatre, Kathmandu directed by Dayahang Rai and also Moi, a play of Magar language. Similarly, a Newari play, Laakhe kwa: Thaigu is being shown on July 3 by Nepal Bhasa Academy, Pyankha Daboo, Kirtipur and directed by Shubha Shanti Bajracharya.



On July 4, the play, Dagbatti by Bagina Samuha directed by PremDev Giri and Govind Koirala in Nepali will be showcased and also another play, Shorthi Birjabhar in Bhojpuri by Kameshwor Chorshiya will be shown.



On July 5, the play, E Kaisan Chalan by Awadhi Samaz Utthan Kendra, directed by Kriparam Badiya in Awadhi and the play, Malami by Actors Studio directed by Anup Baral in Nepali will be shown.



On the last day July 6, the play, Domkach by Mithila Natya Kala Parisad directed by Ramesh Ranjan Jha in Mathili will be shown.



The festival will run until the 22nd of Asar and everyday there will be performances consisting of different languages.



The festival will run until July 6. There will be two plays shown each day, one at 12 pm and another at 5pm. The event is open to all.
