POKHARA, Jan 15: The Yeti Airlines plane that met with an accident in Pokhara on Sunday morning has fallen into the Seti River gorge that flows through Pokhara. This gorge is considered to be dangerous for anyone to venture because of the steep cliffs on both sides of the gorge. The river that flows deep down the gorge is not easily visible from above.

Locals and the police involved in the rescue work said that it was not easy to search for the victims because the gorge was too deep. According to Kaski Police Chief SP Ajay KC, 32 dead bodies have been found in the gorge so far, but they have not yet been retrieved. According to him, the gorge is 300 meters below the ground level and they are facing problems to retrieve the bodies because they have to reach deep down to search for the bodies.

“So far, 32 dead bodies have been found. However, they could not be extracted. It takes half an hour to remove a single dead body," SP KC said, "Due to geographical difficulties, we are struggling to retrieve the bodies."

SP KC said that a crane was used to remove the bodies of the passengers stuck on a slope of the gorge.

“It is not possible to get all the bodies out today. It's getting dark in the gorge," he said, "The rescue and search will start again tomorrow morning."

According to KC, the bodies of 34 people have been sent to the hospital and 32 bodies can be seen in the gorge. According to him, the disaster management team of all three security agencies (police, army and armed police force) in Pokhara is engaged in search and rescue operation with necessary materials. He said that at least five hundred security personnel were deployed in the rescue work.
