The hospital said it would be compelled to halt treatments resulting in the possible deaths of many who are under regular medication if the government does not provide budget immediately.
Superintendent of the Prison Hospital Dr Kedar Narshing KC said, "We have already used Rs 300,000 from our salary in the treatment." The Department of Prison Management (DoPM) had provided Rs 7,000,000 to the Prison Hospital for the ongoing fiscal year, but the entire budget has already been used up. Dr KC said the hospital has demanded additional Rs 11 million for the current fiscal year.
The hospital has also informed the DoPM and the Ministry of Health and Population (MoPH) about the matter. "I had sent the file to DoPM four months ago but have yet to get any response," he said.
Dr KC said he has sought help from the Minister of State for Health and Population Dharmashila Chapagain to get the budget. The hospital also revealed that dozens of prisoners who are suffering from serious diseases like blood cancer, and renal and heart problems have been affected due to the lack of budget.
