Probe panel collects Lama's citizenship details

SINDHUPALCHOWK, May 19: A committee formed to probe allegations against former State Minister of Finance Lhar Kyal Lama reached his home district Sindhupalchowk to make enquiries on Lama on Thursday.



Six officials, including three members of the probe committee led by former Appellate Court Judge Bhola Kharel, visited the District Administration Office, Sindhupalchowk and made enquiries about Lama. [break]



Lama has been accused of possessing citizenships and passports of more than one country



Assistant Chief District Officer Govinda Sapkota said he showed details on Lama´s citizenship. The probe team returned to Kathmandu after getting details about his citizenship card.



Lama took a Nepali citizenship card (48/63798) from Sindhupalchowk DAO on January 31, 1994 when he 29 years old. The card says he was born on November 28, 1964.



Lama resigned just 10 days after being appointed State Minister by Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal in April following allegations that he possessed Indian and Nepali passports, Tibetan refugee card and Indian ration card.



Meanwhile, police have also started their investigation into Lama.
