3 persons arrested for alleged murder of yarcha gumba collector

DARCHULA, Aug 5: Police have arrested three persons on the charge of allegedly murdering a yarcha gumba (Ophiocordyceps sinensis) collector.

The mutilated body of Dev Singh Karki, 33, of Dhari VDC-3, who had gone missing since May 3, was found by a riverbed at Chaemtela area of Darchula district on July 21.



Karki´s family had filed a murder charge against Mahajan Kuwar, 35, of Chapari VDC-1, Puran Singh Karki, 20, of Dhari VDC and Indra Bahadur Bam,39, of Dhari VDC-5 for their alleged involvement in the murder. [break]



According to Prem Singh Karki, Dev´s nephew, Dev was killed while he was walking down toward home after collecting the precious fungi valued for its herbal remedies.  “They murdered him and dumped his body by the river. They even stole the yarsh gumba he had collected and some cash he was carrying,” said Prem. Meanwhile, Deputy Superintend of Police at Darchula District Police Office informed that they were interrogating the detainees.
