The panel formed on Saturday to improve the relation between the ruling partners made the recommendation to top leaders of the parties. The top leaders are meeting later on Sunday to address the demand of the CPN-UML that has been obstructing meetings of the parliament and boycotting the cabinet over Thaiba’s murder.
Thaiba was murdered allegedly by BK, a district leader of Maoist-aligned Young Communist League. CPN-UML has been demanding that the Maoists help the government arrest BK, a condition they have set to attend the cabinet meeting and to let the Constituent Assembly convene smoothly.
BK has been evading arrest by police ever since the murder that took place in the third week of March despite Maoist commitment to help the government arrest the accused. The prime minister has already directed his party cadres to help police arrest BK. However, CPN-UML has maintained that the police have not been able to arrest him because he has political protection.
The panel also recommended that the Maoists confess their mistake in not bringing BK to justice and hand him over to the police as soon as possible.
The recommendations prepared after a meeting Sunday morning will be effective if the top leaders who are meeting later Sunday approve them.
