The tournament sponsored by Ghana Shyam Thapa, Nepal´s first professional golfer and former president of Nepal Professional Golfers Association (NPGA), will conclude on Thursday.[break]
The tournament that will be played over 72 holes with a cut applied after 36 holes, will feature 28 professional and 12 top amateurs. Top 20 professionals and amateurs who will make the cut on overall score will make it to the last 36 holes. The playing condition has been tweaked up for the tournament. Most participants played a practice round on the course to adjust with the conditions of the course. The winner of the event, that carries Rs 300,000 as total prize money, will receive Rs 60,000. Others in the top 20 will also get their share of cash prizes.
Top pro of the country, Shiva Ram Shrestha will be looking at defending the title while Rupak Acharya, Rabi Khaka, Deepak Thapa Magar, Sanjay Lama are the strong contenders.
Toran Shahi, Nepali professional who is a regular at Professional Golf Tour of India will also take part in the tournament. This will be an important tournament for Shrestha. If he wins the title he will have the highest number of wins among Nepali professional golfers. At present Shiva Ram and Deepak Acharya have both 10 titles each in their career.
NIBL wins corporate football
Nepal Investment Bank Limited (NIBL) clinched the title of the Kathmandu 5-a-side Corporate Football Tournament 2068 on Saturday. NIBL defeated Sunrise Bank Limited 3-2 in the final held at the Chyasal football ground in Lalitpur.
Zenith Group of Companies finished third while the other semifinalist, New Business Age, had to settle for the fourth position.
Siddhartha Bahadur Singh of Buddha Air was adjudged the best player while Sudeep Budhathoki of the winning team received the award for top scorer.
Buddha Air´s DB Basnet was declared player of the tournament.
Buddha Air also bagged the fair play award. The award for disciplined team went to New Business Age.
Altogether 17 corporate teams had participated in the one-day event organized by Corporate Management Solution Nepal on behalf of Himalayan Brewery Limited.
The tournament was held in league-cum-knockout format. The teams were divided into four groups and the top two teams from each group had made it to the quarterfinals. All the participants received t-shirts from the organizers.
