Rajkarnikar, a candidate from newly elected President Suraj Vaidya´s panel, defeated his opponent Kumud Kumar Dugar securing 37 of the cast votes.
Although the opponent panel had originally announced Krishna Prasad Tamrakar as candidate for the post, it nominated Dugar during Friday´s elections, as Tamrakar did not turn up for the meeting. Dugar received 24 votes.
“I will make every possible effort to materialize the six-point agenda put forward by our team,” Rajkarnikar told Republica after being elected to the post. He also said the new FNCCI team will try to redefine the role of private sector for the overall development of the nation with the slogan ´Change for Prosperity.
“We will not only work to promote industry and commerce, but also keep our eyes opens to raise problems facing the society, politics and civil society,” added Rajkarnikar.
Before the election, Vaidya had addressed the staff members at FNCCI Secretariat, informing them the agendas of his priority. Vaidya mainly asked them to step up exercises for dealing with labor problem and power crisis -- two issued which he opined as major constraints in the development of industries and growth of exports.
“The problems facing the entire private sector are areas of our concern. We will deal with the issues setting priorities,” said Vaidya, and requested the Secretariat officials to remain proactive to work for the benefits of the key sectors of the economy.
Meanwhile, outgoing president Kush Kumar Joshi administered the oath of office and secrecy to Vaidya. Vaidya then administered the oath to all the members of executive committee.
Head of the Election Committee, Pawan Ojha, handed over certificates to all the office-bearers.
