GAIDAKOT, Sept 21:  CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli has said that the court in the country is bought and called for an end to such unethical practice.

He was referring to an incident that took place about a year and a half ago when a writ petition was filed at the Supreme Court (SC) against 11 judges. Speaking at his party's rally in Gaidakot of Nawalparasi, he expressed deep disappointment over the role of the court.

Oli criticized the SC over its recent controversial rulings. “The apex court ruling has validated injustice toward a Deputy Inspector General of Police. The SC has also set a precedent by institutionalizing ballot-tearing by losing parties,” he added.

He further vented his ire against the court saying that the SC failed to play strong role in safeguarding democracy. “In order for democracy to be strong, the court should be independent and proactive. But in the current situation, the court is running under a setting in utter disregard to the core value of democracy,” said Oli.
“People visit court when they need justice. But the country's court is hesitating to give justice these days,” he further added.
