Ansari had returned to Saudi Arabia a week ago despite the anti-graft body gaving him a date for interrogations as part of further investigations. Officials at the CIAA said Ansari has failed to come into contact even a week after that date. [break]
"We had given Ansari one week to come for further interrogation," said CIAA´s spokesperson Ishwari Prasad Paudyal. "But he has failed to turn up."
Paudyal said they received information that Ansari had already reached Saudi Arabia. "We will take intiatives through the help of the foreign ministry to bring him back if he fails to show up at the CIAA within the next two weeks," he said.
Ansari reached Saudi Arabia via India without informing the MoFA and CIAA shortly after a cabinet meeting decided to recall him.
Spokesperson Paudyal said they have already written to the Nepali embassy in Saudi Arabia not to allow Ansari to reassume his duties there as he could destroy all evidence relating to the charge brought against him.
The envoy had allegedly embezzled insurance money meant for the relatives of three Nepali nationals who died in Saudi Arabia. This became public after the relatives lodged complaints at the CIAA and MoFA seeking action against the envoy.
Ansari repeatedly refused to furnish details about the insurance amount of over Rs 2.5 million per deceased that he is accused of transferring to his personal bank account.
