“We have asked the UML to present its official stance on the seven-point agreement. We call on the party to own up to it and implement it sincerely,” said Maoist Vice-chairman Narayankaji Shrestha.

The meeting also officially endorsed the decision taken by the top office bearers on Thursday to stay out of the government, but lend support to it until such time as the UML comes out with its official stance on the seven-point deal.

The Maoist vice-chairman said that the UML should create an atmosphere of trust by remaining steadfast to the agreement. “How the politics will unfold depends on the move to be taken by the UML,” said Shrestha.

Relations between the Maoists and the UML have soured after the latter declined to own up to the seven-point deal and give the charge of the powerful home ministry to the former rebels.

Shrestha said that Prime Minister Khanal has been asking his party to sit for talks and settle the issues amicably. “But talks alone would not suffice. What really matters is the official decision of that party,” he said.

The Standing Committee meeting on Friday also decided to celebrate the “People´s War” anniversary with fanfare.

The party will conduct training programs for party cadres in Pokhara on February 16, Simara on February18, Biratnagar on February 20 and Nepalgunj on February 22.

Maoists declared the period between February 26 and March 5 as martyr´s week. Then the former rebels will mobilize the masses and hold rallies till April 7 for the sake of sovereignty and democracy, while pressuring the government to address the needs of the people´s daily lives.

The party Central Committee (CC) will formulate concrete programs in the regard.
