KATHMANDU, Aug 30: Former Chief Justice Sushila Karki has urged civil society groups to further strengthen anti-corruption movements and not to get divided along political lines.

Addressing a gathering organized by Nagarik Samuha at the Nepal Tourism Board in Kathmandu on Wednesday, Karki said the public should support the civil society movement such as the one led by Dr Govinda KC.

“The crusade led by Dr Govinda KC is very important social movement aimed at raising social awareness. So we all should work to make it more effective,” she said. “Such movements mustn't fizzle out.”

She emphasized the need for making the politics clean as everything is linked to politics.

Dr KC addressing the function urged everyone to become serious about the ongoing commercialization of basic services including health and education, which are fundamental rights of the citizens.

“In the current situation, people from middle and lower classes can't afford quality education and health services. Only the well-off have been enjoying these,” he said.
“Formulating an appropriate act to ensure quality education for everyone has become imperative and our movement is for good governance as the country has been stolen by agents and mafia,” said KC, who has already staged fast-unto-death for eleven times demanding passage of a crucial bill on medical education.
