The Royal Nepal Golf Club (RNGC) pro lost his Day I lead after a catastrophic second round of eight-over 80 on Wednesday, but was back on top after the third round on Thursday. [break]
Shrestha is atop the leader board with a total score of four-over 220, while Shrestha´s clubmate Deepak Thapa Magar is one stroke behind.
Thapa Magar, who produced the best card of second day at two-under 70, played a round of two-over 74 on Thursday for a total of 221. Another RNGC pro Rabi Khadka is third at 222, after a third-round score of three-over 75.
Defending champion Rupak Acharya of Gokarna played a round of one-over 73 to climb up to fourth with a total score of 223. Acharya, who carded bogey-free two-under 34 on the front nine, faltered on the back nine and hit four bogeys against a lone birdie.
Ramesh Nagarkoti of RNGC is fifth at 225, while three pros -- overnight leader Deepak Neupane, Umesh Nagarkoti and Sabin Sapkota -- share the sixth position with a total score of 10-over 226 each. The Sharma brothers -- Surya Prasad (232) and Pashupati (233) -- completed the top 10.
In the amateur section, Tashi Tsering opened up an eight-stroke lead over his brother and fellow Gokarna player Wanchen Dhondup. Tsering played seven-over 79 on the third day for a total of 15-over 231, whereas Dhondup played a round of 10-over 82. Bikash Bogati was the best amateur of the day with one-over 73 that put him in third position with a total score of 241.
The final round of the sixth event under the Surya Nepal Golf Tour 2010-11, organized by Nepal PGA and sponsored by Surya Nepal Pvt Ltd, will be held on Friday. The winning pro will receive Rs 80,000 while the runner-up will get Rs 51,000.
