Chairman Khanal stresses on local bodies' election

KATHMANDU, Jan 23: Chairman of the CPN-UML, Jhalanath Khanal has pointed out a need to hold the elections in the local bodies as soon as possible to expedite the development activities.



Addressing the fifth anniversary of the Local Body Employees´ Association Nepal in the capital on Sunday, Chairman Khanal said there was the corruption rife in local levels as the election of the local bodies has not been held for eight years.



The formation of local bodies was essential to curb the corruption, he stressed.



Central member of the Nepali Congress, Navindra Raj Joshi said as the first government of the people is the local body, it should be made stronger.



Similarly, Chairman of Civil Servants´ Association, Bhola Pokharel demanded the government that it provide security to the civil employees as they have been carrying out their duties despite numerous challenges.



Chairman of the organizing body, Hari Kumar Shrestha and others said the rights of the civil employees should be ensured in new constitution.
