Three different companies have already applied for tenders to provide the BTS Vans. The companies include A.L.T. Inter Corporation Limited of Thailand and Chinese companies CCTF and ZTE.
Surendra Prasad Thike, spokesperson of NT, said that the service will be made available within months, that is before the end of this fiscal year. “NT is evaluating the tender bids financially and technically and the vans will most probably be purchased within months,” Thike said.
NT plans to take the vans to places like Khullamanch and Dasarath Stadium for special occasions like fairs and mass getherings. NT official said that after the operation of the vans, hundreds of customers can make phone calls easily from the venues covered. The mobile BTS service will also be useful in times of emergency such as natural calamities.
NT is planning to bring 16 mobile BTS vans to provide the service nationwide in times of need. Out of these, three vans will have complete backup systems. The total cost of all the vehicles is estimated to be around Rs 350 million.
A van with BTS looks like a ´crane vehicle´ at first glance and the BTS is kept folded. At the time of operation, the BTS is made straight, enabling the vehicle to reach a higher level to provide the service.
Officials at NT are hopeful the service will help customers get a quality service as mobile BTS can reach places with poor network connection.
