The parties took a decision to this effect in the presence of Speaker Subas Nembang during a meeting on Wednesday.[break]
“We have agreed to formally take the case to parliament,” said UML Chief Whip Bhim Acharya who was also present at the meeting.
A probe committee formed by the JC had accused Justice Bam, and judges Tej Bahadur Karki and Hari Bahadur Basnet of releasing notorious criminals Sanjay Shrestha, Rohit Paliwan Agrawal and Bhimsen Pandit on low bail instead of sending them to custody as required by the existing law. The criminals were arrested on the charges of kidnapping, murder and illegal arms possession.
The impeachment motion will formally be taken up by parliament if one-fourth of the parliamentarians register it. As per the legal provision, parliament will then form a probe committee to investigate into the issue and also give the accused an opportunity to prove their innocence. Two-thirds of the lawmakers can endorse an impeachment motion.
