CHITWAN, Dec 30: Former Prime Minister and Nepali Congress (NC) leader Sher Bahadur Deuba said on Thursday that he would not let the Maoists use him to achieve their ends.

When asked about the reports that Maoists have been planning to propose him as the prime ministerial candidate, he said, “I am not a person to be used by someone. The Maoists should understand this.”[break]

He also urged the Maoists to focus on the task of writing the new constitution. He said though the Maoists have improved their conduct, there is more they should do.

“They attempted to assassinate me in the past. Now they have at least stopped killing and extorting common people. But they are still not ready to disband Young Communist League´s paramilitary structure," he explained.

He said Maoists can still not be trusted as they are yet to truly transform into a civilian party.
