KATHMANDU, Dec 30: If songs like "Summer of 69," "Cuts Like a Knife" and "(Everything I Do) I Do It for You" are on repeat in your iPod, it´s time to hear them live. It´s official: Bryan Adams is coming to town.

In a YouTube video for JPR Events, an event and performance management company, the 51-year-old Canadian singer-songwriter, standing along with his group, says: "Hi, this is Bryan Adams. We´re coming to Nepal in February. Looking forward to seeing you there."

Sunil Hamal of JPR Events confirmed that Adams´ gig is scheduled for February 19, 2011, at the Dashrath Stadium. [break]

The event in collaboration with Simant Gurung from ODC Network, will be "a world class event" with sound systems and stage set up imported from India along with four 20X20 LED screens so that the audience can have a good experience, Hamal said.

Arpana Thapa, who grew up listening to Adams, said she is already excited to see him in Kathmandu and listed her favorites including "I Finally Found Someone" featuring Barbra Streisand.

"I´m a big fan of his husky voice," said the 26-year-old and added that this might open doors for other international acts too.

Though he started his musical journey in 1978, Adams´s self-titled album put him in the music scene in 1980 but it was not until January 1983 that he made an impact. It was with "Straight from the Heart" from his third studio album Cuts Like a Knife that he climbed up the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Adams´s popularity soared after the release of his best-selling album Reckless released in 1984 which featured songs like "Summer of 69," "Run to You," "Heaven" and "It´s only Love" featuring Tina Turner.

In the 90s, Adams collaborated with artists like Sting and Rod Stewart for the single "All for Love" and released several other award-winning chart toppers. However, this decade, Adams hasn´t been able to create the musical magic of the past with his recent releases Room Service in 2004 and 11 in 2008.

Ashish Shyangden, a well-known Radio Jockey, said, "It´s a big thing [musically] but I think it´s too late."

Referring to the new generation, he said the younger music enthusiasts are familiar of his love songs but doubted if they know the artist apart from his Grammy-winning, romantic ballad"(Everything I Do) I Do It for You," released in 1991 and also featured in Kevin Costner starrer Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves.

"[However] once he comes, we might open doors for other international artists. That´s a positive thing," Shyangden said.

In his 32-year musical career, Adams has won a Grammy and an American Music Award along with 18 Juno Awards, Canada´s version of the Grammys.

Adams will perform at the Dashrath Stadium from 7 pm to 9 pm. The gates will be opened at 2 pm and the opening acts with local artists will begin at 6 pm. Tickets are priced at Rs 2,000 and Rs 3,500. Adams´s video confirming his Nepal tour is in our website www.myrepublica.com Click here
