“Kuncha (Migrate to Himalaya)”, directed by Jajan Ghimire and Rajendra Kunwar was the curtain raiser at Rastriya Sabha Griha and “Wordsworth’s Quest for the Sublime”, directed by John Whittle opened the festival at Nepal Tourism Board. [break]
Screening for a jam packed hall at NTB, “End of the World”, directed by David Demichels, presented the scenic beauty of the places explorer and missionary Alberto De Agostini visited in his life. The film follows his nephew Giovanni retaking the magnificent journey.
Also on the occasion, director Yubaraj Lama and lyricist Yadav Kharel released “Chalchitra Kala: Sidhanta, Shailee ra Prastuti” a book by the film maker and writer Laxmi Nath Sharma. The book which was initially published 29 years ago has been re-published by Jagadamba press.
Releasing the book lyricist Kharel said, “Films are not only a medium of entertainment but also academic subjects and the book would assist students of film studies.” The book discusses film movements around the world and the cinematic history of nations like Russia, Sweden and India among others. Writer Sharma is currently working on another book about the Nepali Film Industry.
Today, 13 films will be screened at the film festival. Some Nepali delights include “Struggle Within”, directed by Manoj Pandey to be screened at 11am at the Rastriya Sabha Griha. “Tears of Fear”, directed by Shabnamm Mukhiya will be screened subsequently. Then at 12:30 pm, “Puneko Pant” by Mohan Mainali will be showcased after “Panaekhali”.
