The six-day-long tournament carries a total cash prize of Rs 300,000, which is an increase of Rs 135,000 from the second edition, said the organizers APF during a press conference organized at the APF headquarters in Halchowk on Tuesday.[break]
According to APF Spokesperson DIG Bhismakanta Aryal, the tournament will feature seven events including men´s singles and doubles, women´s singles and doubles, inter-governmental service and veterans´ events in five different age groups. A player will not be eligible to participate in more than two events.
The matches of men´s singles and doubles, and women´s singles and doubles until the quarterfinals will be conducted at the All Nepal Lawn Tennis Association (ANTA) court, Satdobato, and the rest will be held at the tennis court of APF.
The inter-governmental service event has been added from this edition and will feature current or retired players from Nepal Army, Nepal Police, APF and National Investigation Department in singles and doubles events. A participant must be over 35 years of age to participate in the doubles events.
According to the organizers, the tournament will be conducted in accordance with the rules of International Tennis Federation and Asian Tennis Federation. The tie-sheet will be drawn according to ANTA rankings. Each event must feature at least eight players or pairs, otherwise the event shall be cancelled.
The registrations fee is Rs 700 for singles and Rs 1,000 for doubles in any category.
On the occasion, DIG Prem Kumar Shahi of APF also briefed about different sporting activities carried out by APF. Shahi stated that APF were successful in producing national level players in football, volleyball, athletics, boxing, badminton, taekwondo, karate, lawn tennis and cricket, among others.
“Football, volleyball, badminton, boxing, karate, cricket and athletics players of APF have also participated in international events representing the nation,” Shahi added.
The winners and runners-up of men´s and women´s singles will bag a purse of Rs 50,000 and Rs 25,000 respectively, while the top two pairs of men´s and women´s doubles will be awarded with a cash prize of Rs 30,000 and Rs 15,000 respectively. The expected cost of the tournament is Rs 600,000.
