KATHMANDU, Nov 12: Nepali squash players put up a miserable show on Friday even as Deepika Pallikal of India and Kyle Lindsay of New Zealand made it to the final of the Women´s International Squash Players Association (WISPA) Professional Championship at the Squash Academy Sports Complex, Satdobato.

Pallikal registered a straight sets victory in the semifinal defeating Gaby Schmohl of Switzerland 11-9, 11-9, 11-2. Though the Indian had to toil hard against the Swiss in the first two sets, she easily took control in the third.[break]

Pallikal is expected to face a tough challenge for the title from Lindsay who secured a convincing 11-1, 12-10, 11-6 win over Adelweir-Nunan of South Africa in the initial round. Lindsay defeated Jahab Khan of Pakistan in the semifinal.

However, the tournament, the first of its kind in Nepal, could only become a medium of gaining experience for Nepali women with none of the players managing to cross the five-point mark.

Bhawana Sunuwar lost to Schmohl 11-0, 11-3, 11-5 and Krishna Thapa was crushed 11-0, 11-3, 11-2 by Pallikal. Another Nepali participant Chhitij Gurung crashed out losing 11-2, 11-4, 11-2 against South African Nunan.
