Minister Pokharel, who is also the spokesperson of the caretaker government, argued that the need for a fresh CPA among parties stems from the very fact that none of the commitments made by the Maoist in the CPA reached on November 21, 2006, were implementable. [break]He said that the new agreement would only steer the peace process to ´new stage´. He was speaking at an interaction organized by Press Chautari, Dang.
“The agenda of the earstwhile comprehensive peace agreement have all been affected,” he said, adding, “There is now a need for reinvigurating the peace process through a fresh comprehensive peace agreement by setting new agenda.”
The Minister further said, “The issue of differences rests not on who should be prime minister but the conflict between the forces wanting to take the peace process to a new stage and those opposing it.”
Pokharel also disclosed that discussions are afoot about the fresh comprehensive peace agreement in the government and in his own party. New agreement will help to do away with the growing mistrust among political parties, he added.
On the same occasion, Pokharel also claimed that the term of the United Nations Mission in Nepal will not be extended hereafter. “UNMIN will not be kept here though it had important role in the peace process. Now we can handle the peace process on our own,” he added.
The extended term of UNMIN is expiring on January 15, 2011.
