KATHMANDU, March 24: Office of the Controller of Examination (OCE), Sanothimi, Bhaktapur, has completed all necessary preparations for conducting School Leaving Certificate (SLC) examination slated to begin Wednesday. [break]
Altogether 412,081 including 364,591 regular and 47,490 exempted students are sitting for the 10th grade examination this year. This is 45,040 more as compared to last year.
The OCE has set 1,405 examination centers, up from 1,299 last year, across the country.
"We have been told that question papers have already reached to concerned districts and that they have been handed over to superintendents of their respective examination centers," said Deputy Controller Gopal Bhattarai at the OCE, Sanothimi.
Bhattarai said that there was problem to deliver question papers to Panchthar district. "However, we have been able to deliver them to the district this [Monday] morning," he said.
Officials at the OCE said they have arranged at least 10 police personnel in each examination center across the country. And there will be one invigilator for 25 examinees each. The examination centers have been set also beyond the district headquarters as in the previous years.
There are a total six compulsory subjects, 22 subjects in optional paper (I) and 18 subjects in optional paper (II). Each SLC examinee has to sit for the examination of a total eight subjects. The written examination of the SLC will be over on April 2.
The OCE has developed separate question papers for exempted students unlike in the past years.
Deputy Controller Bhattarai said they have developed five different sets of question papers for regular students and five other sets for exempted students in each development regions.
Despite this new provision, the number of exempted students, however, has sharply gone down this year. A total of 47,490 exempted students, against the total 59,963 exempted students last year, are sitting for the examination.
"It could be because many students did not fill up the examination forms," added Bhattarai, when asked the reason behind the decline in the number of exempted students.
As in the past years, Kathmandu district has the highest and Manang district has the lowest number of students sitting for the SLC examination.
According to the OCE, altogether 26,536 regular and 1,148 exempted students are sitting for SLC examination this year, while the number of SLC examinees from the remote Manang district is 53 regulars and three exempted.
