Nepal in tough group

KATHMANDU, Oct 22: Nepal are drawn in a tough group in the ACC U-19 Elite Cup that will be held February 1-10 in Thailand. Nepal and Afghanistan are in the same group -- Group B.



Along with these two teams, UAE, Oman and Thailand are also in Group-B. Defending champion Hong Kong are in Group A along with Qatar, Malaysia, Singapore and Bahrain. [break]



Nepal will take on UAE on the inaugural day. Likewise, Nepal will play against Oman, Afghanistan and Thailand on February 2, 4 and 5 respectively.



The 50-over matches will be played at Gymkhana, Prem Oval, Chiang Mai, Asian Institute of Technology, Pattana School and Thailand Cricket Ground (TCG). The finalists will play at the TCG.



The top two teams of each group will advance into the semifinals. The finalists will play in the 2012 ICC World Cup global qualifier, which will be held in 2011. Nepal had made it to five consecutive U-19 World Cups after their success in the earlier editions of this tournament, which was also the qualifier then. Nepal had clinched the title of the ACC U-19 Elite Cup in 2001, 2003, 2005 and 2007.



Nepal, however, failed to secure the final berth in the last edition of the tournament held in Kuwait in 2009.



Meanwhile, Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has informed of some changes in the women´s cricket event in the 16th Asian Games. The women´s cricket scheduled for November 12 will kick off a day later.



Likewise, Malaysia is also set to participate in women´s cricket after the withdrawal by Singapore, according to CAN.

Afghanistan, Nepal, UAE, Oman and Thailand
