Then, about two weeks later, followed Astha Tamang Maskey’s new video “Sabai Thikai Hunchha,” directed by the same people who made the Jindabaad video – Prasiit Sthapit and Rohit Shakya, who are also the singer and guitarist of Jindabaad. This too has been gathering positive responses, with above 11,000 views in less than two weeks.
Both videos were shot in high definition (HD) with two DSLR cameras.
“And it wasn’t completely professional,” says Maskey. “It was more like a group of friends getting together for a project.”
Moreover, the two videos are very different from the usual Nepali videos.
Along with clean cinematography in the videos, playfulness with angles, depth-of-field lighting, and post-shoot experiments also stand out. Even the all-black cat in Maskey’s video adds an unusual flavor.
Further in the Jindabaad video, the scenes at the end of the song are so eye-catching and unique to the usual Nepali viewer that they leave an “awesome” impression after it has ended.
Going back to Canada in about a week, Maskey voices about the importance of Youtube on the success of the videos.
“The Internet gives everybody a global reach. We have people from Canada, Europe, the UK and all parts of the world responding to the video. It’s great,” she adds.
Her video was given out to Kantipur TV only before being posted on Youtube.
“I plan to give the video to all the TV channels, but I’ve been very busy,” she expresses.
Though both the videos have been getting a lot of positive comments, there have been those who are not that well-wishing as well.
“These are mostly from pure haters and usually targeted personally,” says Maskey.
However, there are also those who think the videos are not that good, and disagree on the lack of a theme or a storyline in the videos. But surely no one can deny that the two works are distinctive and something that hasn’t been seen in the local music fray.
The group is further planning to make another video in the coming weeks.
“This time we want to tinker around with some kind of a theme for the video,” states Maskey.
