On June 11 this year, Khagendra Thapa of Nepal had lost the title of the world´s shortest man to Junrey Balawing of the Philippines who measured 23.6 inch high. [break]Thapa was 26.4 inches.
“I came to know about the records only after Nepal´s Khagendra Thapa lost the title to a foreigner,” said Dangi. “I have full support of my relatives and friends of Jhapa. They want me to be noticed in the world record,” he added.
Born to Belaram and Pingala Dangi in Dang as their third son 72 years ago, Dangi suffered throughout his life owing to his short height.
“Due to my abnormal height I could never live an independent life,” narrated Dangi. “I never got an opportunity to marry,” he added.
Some of his relatives took him to fairs and festivals to earn money by showcasing him as an attraction, but he was never shared the profit. “They would treat me as a toy,” Dangi lamented.
He is now ready to give up the feeling that his short height was a curse. “If I am awarded the title, I would forget all the pains I have endured in my life,” said Dangi. “Life would ultimately be a boon in that condition.”
According to his nephew Tilak Dangi, who has been looking after the old man, Dangi does not have any health complications.
“Even in this age, his health has shown no deterioration,” Tilak said.
