“The caretaker government has no authority to table the finance bill in parliament,” Maoist vice-chair Narayan Kaji Shrestha said after a meeting of party office bearers at Naya Bazaar, Kathmandu. [break]
There are fears that the country might be exposed to a severe resource crunch after October if the finance bill is not passed by parliament soon. The present allocation – which is one-third of the last year’s real expenditure – will suffice for four months only.
Chances are high that lack of a full-fledge can spark a full-blown financial crisis after October.
Shrestha also clarified that parliamentary session scheduled for Thursday was postponed as the Maoists protested the government’s plan to table the finance bill.
“It was not postponed because the Maoists were not ready to discuss the tape controversy as was reported,” he said.
