KATHMANDU, March 17: Eight Nepal Army brigadier generals whose term expired Monday following Defense Ministry’s refusal to extend their terms are still continuing their work, a Nepal Army Headquarters source said. [break]

“Maybe there is still a possibility of extension of their terms so they are still coming to office,” said the source. According to the source, Army Chief General Rookmangud Katawal has asked them to continue their work after his meeting with President Dr Ram Baran Yadav, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal and some party leaders on Monday.

Defense Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa had turned down the request for extension of their terms on Sunday, letting their retirement ipso facto.

Among the brigadier generals getting retirement are Pawan Jung Pande, Narendra Rawal, Kumar Budhathoki, Nara Bahadur Kandel, Pradip Bikram Rana, Raju Pratap KC, Ramesh Bishta and Shiva Poudel.
