Police, armed group trade fire, man arrested

NEPALGUNJ, March 16: Police and cadres of the Tarai Mukti Morcha (Jwala Singh group) clashed Monday afternoon at Betahani VDC-7 in Banke district. Police have arrested a cadre of the armed outfit, Madhumohan Sarkar, along with a revolver and bullets.



Police had reached Betahani, some 16 kilometers from Nepalgunj, around 2 p.m. after receiving a tipoff that an armed group was in the area. The armed cadres numbering about nine tried to flee the scene after a brief exchange of fire, according to Inspector Pradeep D.C.



The arrested Sarkar, who hails from India, is found to have been living in rented quarters in the Betahani area.
