KATHMANDU, Aug 4: Supreme Court on Wednesday ordered the detention of Nihita Biswas and Shakuntala Thapa, wife and mother-in-law, respectively, of convicted criminal Charles Sobhraj, our correspondent Bimal Gautam reported.

The two have been taken into custody as their statement on contempt of court charge could not be completed today. The division bench of Justices Balaram KC and Ram Kumar Prasad ordered their detention. The hearing would resume on Thursday. [break]

The SC on Sunday ordered them to appear in court in three days after a writ was filed against the duo who lashed out at the court verdict on French national, Sobhraj.

Reacting to the court´s verdict last Friday, Thapa, also a lawyer, and Biswas had accused the justices, who upheld Sobhraj´s life term passed by lower courts, of corruption while passing the verdict against the convict.
