4 die in boat capsize

KATHMANDU, March 9: Four persons died in the Sunkoshi River in Kavre district after a boat carrying six people capsized in the middle of the river, Monday morning, according to state-owned Radio Nepal.



The dead have been identified as Shiva Prasad Kharel, 16, his sister Sister Ekata Kharel, 12, Sujata Lama, 12 and Rachana Lama – all from Falante Village Development Committee (VDC). They had boarded the ill-fated boat to pay a visit to the Hattichhaya Bhairav Temple in Koshi Dekha VDC-2 just across the river.

The radio, quoted Hari Mainali, vice-president of a local Nava Yuva Pragati Club, said the two injured have been taken to Dhulikhel for treatment.


Eyewitnesses said Shiva Kharel had taken the boat from the boatman, Jagat Majhi. The boat capsized after Kharel lost control of the boat. Majhi and other locals were able to rescue only two, said the radio.
