KATHMANDU, Sep 18: Newly-appointed Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal has begun a meeting at the office of the Election Commission to discuss the upcoming election to be held on March 5 next year.
Minister Aryal and representatives of security agencies are discussing the security issues and modality for the elections with the acting Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari.

Sources told Republica that the meeting will also focus on bringing ordinance to allow voting the new voters whose names are not enrolled in the voters list. New voters have been expressing concerns over social media that despite their sacrifice to make a significant political transformation the existing laws won’t allow them to vote even if they have crossed the legal voting age of 18.
The Section 4 subsection 2 (2) of the voter Registration Act 2073 bars people to registered in the voters’ lists after the date of the election has been declared.
The EC said that there are 18, 148, 654 registered voters in Nepal until April 13, 2025 which is around 160,000 more than the voters during the previous 2022 election of the House of Representatives.
The EC officials have said that the new voters can only be enlisted only after bringing amendments in the existing laws through ordinance.
