2 killed, over 70 missing as boat capsizes in Saptakoshi

UDAYPUR, Aug 5: Two people were killed and more than 70 others went missing when a ferry carrying them capsized in Saptakoshi river at Chataraghat in east of Udaypur district on Monday afternoon.



A total of 90 people were on the ferry when the mishap happened at around 3:15 pm. The boat was carrying the people from Barahakshetra of Sunsari to Mainamaini of Udaypur. Both the deceased are women, whose bodies were found floating 100 meters downstream. [break]



According to eye witnesses, the passengers started panicking after a sudden flood caught the boat while it was still in the middle of the river. Some of them jumped out of the ferry before it reached to the shore, causing the boat to lose balance and overturn, police inspector Mahendra Thapa of the area police office, Rampur said.
