Prices of edible commodities stable

KATHMANDU, June 27: Prices of essential commodities have remained stable in the market over the period of two weeks. The prices have remained unchanged in the market after slight increment two weeks ago.



Traders said prices of commodities like lentils, edible oil and sugar among others have remained unchanged as the supplies have remained smooth over the period. [break]



“Prices have largely remained stable after a slight rise two weeks ago,” Ganesh Khanal of Maitidevi-based Ganesh Store told myrepublica.com on Sunday. Essential commodities like Mas dal, Rahar dal, Musuro dal, Chana dal, edible oil and sugar, among others have remained unchanged, Khanal added.



According to Nepal Retailers´ Association, Musuro dal - a popular commodity in Nepali homes -- has been selling stable at Rs 100 per kg, while Mas Dal is selling for Rs 120 per kg.



“Apart from slight changes, prices of major commodities have remained unchanged in the market due to uninterrupted supplies,” said said Pabitra Bajracharya, president of Nepal Retailers´ Association.



Though prices of popular lentils have remained unchanged, price of green pea, however, has decreased to Rs 48 per kg from Rs 55 recorded a fortnight ago. Price of Rahar dal has also declined to Rs 120 per kg from Rs 130 kg. Chana dal, however, has remained stable and is selling in the range of Rs 64 to Rs 70, according to retailers.



Raju Shresstha, a retailer at Asan bazaar, said, price of Mung Khosta - a popular lentil variety -- has increased by Rs 5 per kg to Rs 160 per kg over the period.



Sugar - another popular commodity in Nepal homes - is selling stable in the range of Rs 65 to Rs 70 per kg. Sugar price had touched Rs 100 per kg about few months ago.



Prices of edible oil have largely remained unchanged in the market. Dhara brand of mustard oil is selling for Rs 140 per liter, while soybean oil is priced unchanged at Rs 90 per liter. However, the price of sunflower oil has dropped by Rs 5 to Rs 95 per liter in the market.
