10 injured in teachers, cops clash

UDAYAPUR, June 24: At least 10 persons including police personel were injured in a clash ensued between agitating teachers and police at District Education Office, Udayapur on Thursday afternoon.



Police even resorted to baton charge and fired four rounds of tear gas to contain the situation. [break]



Police said that they resorted to baton charge after some of teachers pelted stones at them.



Five agitating teachers and five police personnel including a female head constable were injured in the clash. All the injured are receiving treatment at Udayapur Hospital, Gaighat.



Relief quota teachers had staged a protest program at District Education Office demanding implementing a six-point demand which includes equivalent facilities--salary and allowances--as the permanent teachers.



Meanwhile, our correspondent Krishna Neupane said police detained around 26 agitating relief quota teachers from Tanahun Education Office. Teachers were staging protest there.
