A meeting of the party´s Central Committee held under the chair of Chairman Narayan Man Bijukchhe on Saturday made a decision to this effect saying the government had utterly failed to implement the 18-point demand forwarded by the party. [break]
Altogether five NWPP members, including two elected under proportional electoral system, represent the 601-member parliament. The NWPP decision, however, will not affect survival of the current government.
Talking to myrepublica.com, NWPP General Secretary Sunil Prajapati said, “This government could neither accomplish the task of promulgating the new constitution nor could it take the ongoing peace process to a logical end.”
The NWPP had raised various non-political agendas -- ensuring adequate supply of drinking water, addressing load shedding problems, conducting election of local bodies, controlling sky-rocketing market prices, controlling corruption, among others -- in its 18-point demand.
UML Chairman Jhala Nath Khanal had expressed written commitment to implement the 18-point demand. “However, the government has failed to implement its commitments,” said Prajapati. “This is why we decided to withdraw our support to the government.”
The NWPP had voted against the plans and policies unveiled by UML-led government last year alleging that the plan and policies did not incorporate their demands.
