BUSINESS BRIEFS: CNI told to expand network

KATHMANDU, May 31: Entrepreneurs associated with Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI) on Monday asked its executive body to expand CNI´s networks throughout the country.



Speaking at an interaction, they urged the leaders not to confine the organization´s presence and activities within the Kathmandu Valley and go nationwide to serve the interests of the entire industrial sector in the country. [break]



CNI President Binod Chaudhary said that the confederation was organizing a national convention in the near future and hosting a national debate on rejuvenating the downturn manufacturing industry in the near future. He also said that CNI will hold more discussions on the modality of expanding its network.





NIC Bank serving productive sector



KATHMANDU, May 31: NIC Bank said on Monday that almost 90 percent of its Rs 14 billion loan portfolio has been disbursed in over 2,000 diversified industries and businesses across the country.



These businesses include a wide range of industries including food processing, steel, cloth, yarn, cement, paints, jute, carpets, paper, handicrafts, hotels, hospitals, education, agriculture, leather, plastics, cables, bricks and IT, among others, according to a statement received on Monday.



The bank´s exposure on realty loans is only around 10 percent of its portfolio. We have also financed more than 600 Small & Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and that has been our major strategic thrust since the last three years, the statement added.



NIC Bank announced 27 percent growth in net profit to Rs. 319 million in the first nine months of the current year compared to the same period last year.



The Bank operates with a network of 25 branches and 25 ATMs across the country.





Pepsi announces World Cup winners



KATHMANDU, May 31: Varun Beverages -- the bottlers of Pepsi, Mirinda and 7up in Nepal -- announced Manik Nepal of Kathmandu and Tirtha Kumar Shrestha of Morang as the first lucky winners of ´Pepsi Football Mania´ campaign. The lucky winners received 32” Samsung LCD televisions each.



Under the campaign, consumers will need to collect three crowns featuring Didier Drogba, Lionel Messi, Thierry Henry and one goal crown after which they have to SMS their name to a dedicated number to be eligible for the lucky draw, the company said in a statement. The grand prize winner will win a Hero Honda Karizma ZMR.



There are two Samsung 32” LCD TVs to be won every week in addition to Nokia mobile phones, Timex wrist watches and other merchandise like T-shirts, key rings and posters of the footballers, the statement added.
