KATHMANDU, May 12: Nepali football team will not compete for the Olympics qualifiers this time again.

According to All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) President Ganesh Thapa, Nepal decided to stay out of the competition as international competitions would be costly. “Competing in international tournaments and Olympics cost a lot and the government does not provide fund for that,” said Thapa.

The last time Nepal participated in Olympics qualifiers was in 2003 in home ground during which Nepal played both matches against Palestine at the Dasharath Stadium.

Nepal didn´t appear in the earlier editions of qualifiers of Asia Cup, Olympics and World Cup stating that it would be too costly. However, Nepal did compete for the qualifiers of the current World Cup three years ago.
