PM calls 10-party meet

KATHMANDU, May 3: Amidst deepening political crisis with Maoist demanding his resignation through indefinite general strike, Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal has called a meeting of 10 major parties of ruling coalition on Monday afternoon.



The meeting, scheduled at 1 p.m. NST, is expected to formulate government’s strategy on the Maoist protest activities that have remained largely peaceful.[break] It will also discuss on the Maoist stance on his resignation.



Prime Minister’s Press Advisor Bishnu Rijal told myrepublica that the main objective of the meeting is to boost up the morale of the government.



Earlier, the ruling parties had asked the prime minister not to bow down due to pressure from the streets. The parties had also suggested the government to bolster law and order situation to avoid any untoward incidents during the Maoist protests.



Party sources said the three big parties have discussions within the party and with other parties. The Maoists are currently busy in internal negotiations.



The CPN-UML and the Maoists are expected to hold meeting sometime in the afternoon before sitting for three-party negotiation, possibly in the evening.
