KATHMANDU, Sept 18: Altogether 169 lawmakers have failed to furnish their property details to the parliamentary secretariat as the deadline for the same expired on Wednesday. The number includes ministers as well. The ministers need to submit the details to the office of the council of ministers rather than to the secretariat. [break]

"Only 432 lawmakers furnished their property details by the deadline," Dhan Bahadur Shrestha, joint secretary at the secretariat, said.

However, the secretariat officials said they are yet to publish the details of those submitting the details and those who failed. "What I can tell you is that all the former prime ministers -- Girija Prasad Koirala, Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Sher Bahadur Deuba and Lokendra Bahadur Chand -- have submitted their details," Shrestha said.

The Corruption Control Act has made it mandatory that every person holding public position must furnish property details within 60 days of appointment in the position and after that they need to update it within 60 days from the start of each fiscal year.

Those failing to submit the details on time will be given one more month if request for it with logical reasons.

After that, they will face Rs 5,000 fine and other actions depending on the situation.
